Tomte

Gramma always calls JPA tomte... So, in ode to her... here is a picture of him in his blue sweater that makes him look (in my mind) like a tomte...

JPA's Bouncer

Lately, we've noticed that JPA was wanting to be vertical more and more and not so horizontal. We got him a jumper/bouncer. Of course, no project is ever so simple as just opening the giant clamp over a door frame. Our house has no door frames that would work, except the upstairs bathroom (which is not ideal). So, Nate had an excuse to use his basement workshop to work up a 'pseudo' trim to have the jumper function. JPA LOVES the jumper... And every time he uses it, it clicks more and more in his mind that when he moves his feet there is a reaction. It's quite an amazing thing to begin to see him make that connection.

Uncle Jake & Aunt Sook Visit

Aunt Sook and Uncle Jake were home from Germany for a two-week stay. It was their first time meeting JPA face-to-face, live and in person. JPA loved meeting them both, but couldn't get enought of Aunt Sook. Sook taught us how to pronounce Jonathon in Korean (there is no 'th' sound in the language), she cooked us some amazing food and it was just nice to see them. Last time was at their wedding in the summer. We look forward to seeing them again real soon, and possibly going to Germany when Jake returns from Iraq.

Babies & Avocados???

So, those that have been following JPA, know that we've had a few weight issues and he has reflux (GERD) and is on Prevacid. The makers of Prevacid stopped making the version he was one. Long story short, we now have to open up capsules, divide the little prevacid balls in half, and sprinkle the balls over some food. We tried both baby rice cereal and baby applesauce, but neither settled well with his stomach. His daycare provider, Elizabeth, suggest avocados. Yes, you read right, avocados.

Turns out, JPA LOVES the avocado. In fact, he'll even feed himself--well, he grabs the spoon and sucks on it... Hey, one of these days it will click that what he is doing is actually feeding himself and has more purpose than just something to suck on that tastes good.

And if you're questioning the fact that he could really like avocado, when he's done with the nightly dose (he only gets about a tablespoon or so, he gets quite upset and wants more....

More Winter Shots

Just thought that to get me back in the rhythm of blogging again, I'd start with some winter weather shots around 8 Pound Road... I heard that this is the snowiest winter in the Valley in 34 years.. (Per Nate)

Relaxin' Sunday...

JPA has been wanting to not sit so often anymore. We put him in this walker, with books underneath as his feet don't reach the floor yet (even on the lowest setting). As you can see, he really enjoyed chillin out.

JPA has also discovered that he is able to hold things in his hands. He's been holding this caterpillar rattle and the ring rattles that were Nathan's when he was little...

Drug-Laced Rice Cereal...

So, JPA was diagnosed with GERD (acid reflux) at the ripe old age of 3 weeks. He was on Prevacid for it since (and it's so helpful to him in being comfortable after eating and in also reducing the amount of him spitting up). Well, the lovely makers of his type of Prevacid, decided to not manufacture it anymore. This lead to a call from his doctor to the Portland Gastro-docs to see what they were doing for all their infants that were one it. The plan of action now is to get capsules, open them up, split the Prevacid balls in half and mix it in with either rice cereal or applesauce.

Tonight was our first night trying it. We tried with rice and I was all prepared for a large mess and him not keeping any down as he wouldn't be able to eat it. Well, I was wrong. He loved the cereal! He actually was turning his head towards the spoon and he ate it all, even though it was laced with Prevacid balls. Let's continue to hope he eats it this easily every night!!!

Old Port Pictures

Here a couple of photos I took last weekend. We did manage to take Jonathon for a stroll down by the water in the "Old Port" and I snapped a couple quick photos. -n8
